Print Essay Analysis
In the Tuesday, February 10, 2009 edition of the Spartan Daily writes a article titled "Pilot safety program for housing begins". The reason why this I chose this article is because it is about housing in San Jose State. I am currently a resident of Washburn dorm and therefore I am very interested with articles such as these through "How we understand essays because we live in particular times and places..." I am also interested in articles that involve human rights. Those are the reasons why I picked this article.
This article talks about how starting on Thursday, February 12, 2009, the University Housing department will begin its pilot safety program at the Campus Village Suites. It requires people who enter the building in between 12:00AM-3:00AM to show identification. I personally have many friends in the suites and enjoy visiting them frequently especially at night. This restriction will make it more inconvenient for me to visit my friends. Therefore making it less desirable to see them which leads to a demise in the social life, not just me, but the school in general. Most people don't hang out until late night anyways because they have homework to do. This new program will definitely change the feeling of freedom in college.
The article includes quotes from students who live in the building, all of them which support this program. It is very bias in my opinion because they don't ask any students who goes and visits the residents of the suites. Neither do they get students who, I am sure there are a lot, voiced their opinions against this program. It is placed strategically throughout the article, especially after information about the program. It would place a quote by a student who supports it to create an illusion that it will do nothing but good. I just wish articles would not be bias in this day of age.
