GO GIANTS!!!!

JUST PLAYING!! I hate baseball. I think it is the most boring sport there is. However, that is not what the city of San Jose thinks. How does the San Jose Athletic sound? Pretty good right? Former San Jose mayor Susan Hammer believes that as well. She just formally became a supporter of San Jose's bid for the Oakland Athletics in an article of the San Jose News posted March 10, 2009. It makes economic sense to bring the Oakland A's to San Jose. It will bring in billions of dollars in revenue through ticket sells, tourism, and other revenues associated with a sports franchise in a major U.S city. The citizens of the Santa Clara County would also love a team in San Jose. They would avoid a 40 minute drive to watch the San Francisco Giants or the Oakland Athletics. That is why the city council of San Jose are beginning talks about bringing the great franchise to San Jose.

However, there are a few problems that arises. The Oakland A's never officially proposed to move to San Jose! Also, currently there is not any set land for the Athletics to build a new stadium. Lastly, San Jose is a part of the San Francisco Giant's territory. Therefore, the Athletics can not move into San Jose unless rules change. Those problems are easily solvable. The real problem is that if the Oakland A's would want to move to San Jose. Only time will tell.

Avocate+Duh=Avodah

Avodah is a Jewish Service Corps. From the reading of the website, I believe that they are a community service group. They recruit Jews in their 20s from overseas to spend a year to help work on urban poverty issues. The Avodah group are trying to help other people through religion. They are trying to get a cause through. That is what advocacy is. I think everything can relate to advocacy in one way or another. Especially religious affiliations, practices, and beliefs because your religion can shape the way you act towards a certain subject. For example, my aunt who is a Buddhist loves to help people. Not only out of her heart of gold, but also because her Buddhist ways taught her to help other people to achieve salvation. I think that is what shapes advocacy.

49ers?! WTF?!

49ers. San Francisco. Those words are usually associated with one another. However, it is soon going to be 49ers and Santa Clara. Recently, about a month ago, there was a article on the San Jose Mercury News about the San Francisco 49ers possibly moving to Santa Clara. The problem started when many other teams started receiving new stadiums from their respective cities. San Francisco, wanting to bid for the 2016 Olympics, decided to talk to the 49ers to rebuild the Candlestick Stadium so that it can bring in new revenue for the city as well as the franchise. However, negotiations went south because the San Francisco 49ers decided that there are too many traffic problems in that area and wanted to build elsewhere. The 49ers then changed their focus from San Francisco to Santa Clara because the 49ers training facility is there as well. The columnist is absolutely correct in criticizing the San Francisco 49er's management decisions. The columnist points out many flaws in the currently team President Jed York's decisions in moving to Santa Clara. As stated in the article, there are many other options besides moving 40+ miles away from San Francisco to Santa Clara. The 49ers can also check out Hunter's Point. The 49ers can also retry negotiations to refurbish Candlestick Park. I don't know why the 49ers have to make it so complicated in such a hard economy. There are so many ways to solve this problem.

TIREDDDD

Wow, it is getting REALLY late. Truthfully, I didn't read the whole chapter 13. It was too long for me to fit all in one day. Yeah, I know I procrastinate. So, from what I read so far, I kind of agree with the author. That writing out our opinions really do bring us together, in one way or another. From what I see, that is how debates are formed, it is a way to express our opinions. Also, I found the story in the beginning of the essay interesting, about the man who expressed his opinion and got fined during the start of our great nation. Now you can basically cuss out the police or other officials without any consequences. The results of opinions really do change from such a small time period. I am not sure if this freedom of speech is such a great idea after all. There is just TOO much freedom I believe for us to handle. Humans are just too irresponsible to handle all of this. I think there should be certain regulation about what people can say in the press. That is all I can come up with.

ROW! ROW! ROW YOUR BOATTT

$2.35. $2.29. $2.01. These are the prices we had been seeing at the pumps in California. So what is the big deal? Well it is a lot cheaper than the $3.80 we saw over the summer, but there is still a big increase since Christmas. I hate high gas prices because that means I have less money to spend, and that is the reason why I am writing about this article. I am very passionate about money. Who isn't? I hope that this blog post will help inform you on why the pumps fluctuate as much as it does.

So how come the prices of gas is rising yet Crude oil is selling for the low price of under $35 a barrel? That is because refineries across the United States and especially in California are pouring out less black commodity, partly because of maintenance work, mechanical glitches and the gradual conversion to summer blends of fuel. Also, oil from Texas and the Gulf of Mexico is unusually cheaper than the Middle East and South America, the United State companies are cutting back production in an effort to boost profits in a economy that is slowing demand. What does that all mean? To put it simply, a mixture of problems in the process of the production process and the greedy United States companies are causing refineries to crank out less oil and therefore with less supply means a higher in price. Greed in humans are the biggest cause of suffering in the world. It is certainly making my wallet suffer.

EEEEHHHHHHHHHAAAAAA

Water Rationing? No way! In a recent article on cbs.com shows that the Santa Clara Valley Water District board of directors voted Tuesday to impose rationing measures on the county's 1.7 million residents. The details of the restriction is not yet known until the board meeting on March 24, 2009. Personally I believe that this is going to anger a lot of people. Water is such a essential part of life and restricting water use is basically restricting life. I think it is stupid that they would rather restrict water use than to build a new sanitation plant to clean the dirty water supply. This article was chosen because I am currently residing in San Jose State dorms and although the water is a little nasty, it is necessary for me to do everyday activities. Without enough water, I could not do laundry, wash my face, brush my teeth, and take a shower. I am sure that there are going to be a lot of complaints about this restriction and it will soon be overturned.

In the article it showed pictures of people using water and it also provides information about how much are they going to restrict. I guess it kind of helps to know how people are using water and how much water is being kept from us. Still, I think that no matter what the board or the article says, this is not going to make any one happy and instead it is going to have a political backlash on the board of directors in charge of the Santa Clara Valley Water District. Once again "How we understand Essays because we live in particular times and places" is what I think about first when I read this article. I just love reading on things that affect me in one way or another.

Print Essay Analysis

In the Tuesday, February 10, 2009 edition of the Spartan Daily writes a article titled "Pilot safety program for housing begins". The reason why this I chose this article is because it is about housing in San Jose State. I am currently a resident of Washburn dorm and therefore I am very interested with articles such as these through "How we understand essays because we live in particular times and places..." I am also interested in articles that involve human rights. Those are the reasons why I picked this article.

This article talks about how starting on Thursday, February 12, 2009, the University Housing department will begin its pilot safety program at the Campus Village Suites. It requires people who enter the building in between 12:00AM-3:00AM to show identification. I personally have many friends in the suites and enjoy visiting them frequently especially at night. This restriction will make it more inconvenient for me to visit my friends. Therefore making it less desirable to see them which leads to a demise in the social life, not just me, but the school in general. Most people don't hang out until late night anyways because they have homework to do. This new program will definitely change the feeling of freedom in college.

The article includes quotes from students who live in the building, all of them which support this program. It is very bias in my opinion because they don't ask any students who goes and visits the residents of the suites. Neither do they get students who, I am sure there are a lot, voiced their opinions against this program. It is placed strategically throughout the article, especially after information about the program. It would place a quote by a student who supports it to create an illusion that it will do nothing but good. I just wish articles would not be bias in this day of age.

"I don't Really Want to Go into Personal Thins in This Blog"
Risking Connection through Blogging

The blog written by Professor Carlton Clark of Collin County Community was the piece I chose to write on. I chose this blog because the first two paragraphs were attention grabbers. I am really into reading about people's personal struggle to get to where they are today just as how Clark spent all his time and energy and traveling between schools to get his career starting. Clark also talks about his reasons for mandating his students to write blogs every day. He seems to truly care about his students which is why this essay is what I chose.

In the essay, Clark talks about making his students write 500 words weekly for his blog. If I were his student, I would be annoyed by the fact that I have to write 500 words weekly. Then again, after reading the essay, I understood why Clark pushes his students. He pushes his students to write for fun, and not for a grade. He wants his students to be able to learn that writing can be used as a way to express yourself. He really seems to care about helping his students get better in writing. That is pretty cool. I've met many teachers who don't really care about us students, so it is really nice to know that someone out there does.

This essay helps me prepare my mindset from thinking it is just a normal assignment to a way I can express myself. I am now looking forward to writing on my blog. If I had not read this essay, I would just believe that it is another graded assignment. Now I would write, not for the grade, but for myself.
